Midjourney --v 8 is about to be released, and I feel like this example really shows how much more beautiful and emotionally nuanced MJ is compared to everyone else. Left: Midjourney Right: Nano banana Prompt: "A melancholic medieval young woman with a soft, sorrowful gaze, standing in partial profile. Her gown is slightly tattered at the edges, with a loosely draped neckline suggesting past elegance. Her head is tilted upward, yawning dramatically with her eyes closed and mouth open, eyebrows drawn with quiet distress. Behind her, a tall man stands closely, one arm placed around her waist, his expression distant and conflicted a cold, intense stare filled with superiority. The atmosphere is dim and dramatic, with soft chiaroscuro lighting, stone walls fading into shadow behind them, subtle painterly textures, historical illustration style, cinematic framing" Aesthetically it's not even close, but aside from that, what Midjourney generated here shows incredible emotional nuance. "Her eyebrows drawn with quiet distress." "His expression distant and conflicted, a cold, intense stare filled with superiority." The emotion as described is captured so beautifully.

I think this Midjourney V7 style reference might interest you: --sref 1142076217 This style is cinematic sci-fi sketch concept art. Loose ink linework, rough strokes, and soft color washes create a raw, storyboard-like feel. It blends Moebius-inspired sci-fi with modern industrial design and cinematic lighting. Feels like a movie before it exists.

Here’s a Midjourney V7 style reference you might want to explore: --sref 3348769398 This style is European comic caricature with cinematic lighting. It blends Franco-Belgian bande dessinée energy with a more modern, slightly painterly digital finish. Feels like a quirky European animated movie full of personality.

This Midjourney style looks like a 1950s sci-fi comic and a propaganda poster had a baby. Today’s SREF: 78994627 Think bold red-orange palettes, screen-print texture, thick hand-drawn lines, exaggerated characters, and that perfect “retro future” vibe that feels nostalgic but still insanely clickable today. Why it works: It instantly stands out in the feed. It feels playful, ironic, and editorial at the same time. Perfect if you want visuals that look like old America imagining the future. Best use cases: Vintage brand visuals Cafe / beer / restaurant campaigns Editorial covers Indie game art Retro event posters Sci-fi or dystopian book covers Social posts that need to stop the scroll If you want to recreate this look, I dropped the full prompt in the comments. Copy it, test it, and make this style your own. Try: vintage propaganda poster retro commercial illustration mid-century comic art screen print texture Use with: --sref 78994627 --v 7 --sv6 Full prompt link is in the comments. #midjourney #sref

I spent 6 hours testing Midjourney v8 against every major image model. Conclusions: 1. v8 is better when you use a profile 2. If you push --s to higher levels, you start to get the same person 3. v8 in RAW mode is subpar 4. v8 lacks fidelity What do you think? Prompt below:

Things I found useful with V8 alpha (from my own experience): - use many different profiles with different moodboards (even if the combination makes no sense). Somehow, when I use 5–7 profiles + a couple of moodboards, results get much better - stylization 1000 - don’t be afraid of chaos, anything between --c 10 and --c 100 - run many iterations and be patient V8 is still very far from perfect, but I trust they’ll refine it. Aesthetically, nothing else comes close to Midjourney so far

Since Midjourney arrived three years ago, I feel like I've been caught in a constant internal conflict between my adult self, who wants to exploit it for professional reasons, and my childlike self, who just wants to build worlds with it. And I'm starting to understand why David refuses to make it a tool designed for professionals. The child is winning.
@The_Sycomore ·
Midjourney V8 Blend - Monochrome --profile oovu5h7 --sref 2298369550 --v 8 --hd Warning : Your prompt should align with a high-quality monochrome photographic style and accurately describe the desired subject. V8 Alpha do not tolerate simple or vague prompts. The best results are achieved when the prompt is properly aligned with the moodboard and the srefs. Prompt in alt for example.

This might be one of the most hypnotic SREF styles I’ve seen lately. sref 621218381 on niji 6 creates a surreal, glowing world that feels like ukiyo-e met futuristic fantasy in a dream. Think: deep midnight blues burning orange-red light bioluminescent details mystical symbols soft halos everywhere The result looks mysterious, elegant, and slightly unreal — perfect if you want images that instantly feel cinematic and magical. Where this style works really well in Midjourney: fantasy game key art album covers with a mystical vibe myth-inspired character portraits VR or immersive worldbuilding scenes nightclub / concept branding visuals fashion campaign backgrounds with a surreal edge If you want to push this look further, try concepts like: bioluminescent clusters deep sea phantasm nocturnal ritual These directions make the style feel richer, stranger, and way more memorable. I dropped the full prompt formula in the comments. Use it if you want to recreate this exact aesthetic fast. #midjourney #sref

The future of storytelling is bright! ✨ It's a wonderful time for creative people. The latest video models are making it possible for more people (regardless of their technical skills) to tell stories. This is a short trailer for a story I'm working on that started with a Midjourney image, which I expanded into a 2x3 storyboard panel using GPT Image-2, then brought to life with Seedance 2 on Runway.

Brand aesthetic style. No. 1 For travel + adventure brands, hospitality, lifestyle, wanderlust. Steal this style. Take it, use it, run with it or create your own visuals, like this: In Midjourney, add --p muq75ko m7373186466366619672 at the end of the prompt to get this style. I also used --s 400 (and occasionally --c 8) Prompts and images for you to download and use below.

📅⛵️ Midjourney Office Hours Recap - Arpil, 01 2026 In short: Version 8.1 is due to be released shortly (early next week); major cost-cutting measures are currently underway; the website is being redesigned; and new closed-door tests and experiments on image quality are being conducted. 🇫🇷 Version française en commentaire 🔶 Version 8.1 (Next Model Release) 🔹 Upcoming model previously considered “V8 beta” will likely be named 8.1 to simplify naming. 🔹 Internal testing (guides/mods) shows strong positive feedback overall. 🔹 Expected release: early next week (Mon–Wed). 🔹 Final blocker: distillation optimization to reduce cost (currently 4–10x higher without it). 🔹 Goal: reduce distillation time from ~3 weeks → 1–2 days using improved methods. 🔶 Model Behavior & Transition Plan 🔹 8.1 may have edge cases where it performs worse than 8.0. 🔹 Plan: 🔸 Keep V8 (8.0) available for ~2 weeks post-launch. 🔸 Encourage users to compare outputs and report regressions. 🔹 Long-term: 🔸 8.0 will be deprecated, with 8.1 becoming the main model. 🔹 Shift away from “alpha/beta” terminology, but: 🔸 Models may still be temporary and phased out. 🔶 Future Testing Strategy 🔹 Moving toward a closed early testing group: 🔸 Size: ~10,000–100,000 users. 🔸 Likely based on activity or tenure. 🔹 Reason: 🔸 Need large-scale testing (~20k users). 🔸 Reduce low-quality or bad-faith feedback from fully open testing. 🔶 Image Quality & Feature Experiments 🔹 Potential improvements under exploration: 🔸 Higher default resolution (uncertain for 8.1 launch). 🔸 Experimental 4K rendering mode. 🔸 New upscalers in development. 🔸 Larger batch generation options. 🔹 Ongoing work on: 🔸 Full editing model capabilities (returning focus). 🔶 Website & UX Redesign 🔹 New design team working on a major web interface overhaul. 🔹 Goals: 🔸 Cleaner layout. 🔸 Easier onboarding and usability. 🔹 Timeline estimate: ~1 month. 🔹 Approach: 🔸 Visually different but still recognizably Midjourney. 🔸 Focus on design-driven improvements, not just features. 🔶 Mobile & Platform Direction 🔹 Early movement toward: 🔸 More distinct desktop vs mobile experiences. 🔹 Improved design system expected to: 🔸 Enable better mobile usability and structure. 🔶 Upcoming Announcements 🔹 “Secret projects” nearing announcement stage. 🔹 Priority: 🔸 Release 8.1 first, ensure stability and user satisfaction. 🔸 Then begin rolling out new project reveals.

⛵️Midjourney Office Hours Notes trip 🇫🇷 En français en commentaire After spending two and a half years translating the notes from Midjourney’s ‘Office Hours’ for the French community, and having been posting on Midjourney’s Discord server for about a year, I’ve decided to bring all these posts to life. A journey through the styles and history of Midjourney. The images weren’t originally intended to follow on from one another; rather, they were designed to showcase the widest possible range of styles. As a result, sequencing them wasn’t necessarily straightforward, but I hope you’ll find the final result captivating. A big thank you to James Griffing, who has done a remarkable job and who has supported and guided me through this adventure. And thank you to @aliejules, who posted the recaps on X when I first started. And of course, a huge thank you to @DavidSHolz for being there every week to work and share updates on this fantastic tool, and thank you to all the Midjourney teams working behind the scenes. https://t.co/TnkgpTfC58

Yesterday @javilopen asked what happened to Midjourney. Usually if a tool disappoints I move on and keep it to myself, but I was scrolling through Midjourney's official Twitter account and something stopped me. They were implying that long prompts are usually "𝐠𝐩𝐭𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐩". I had to sit with that for a second because they are sitting at version 8 of their model, prompt length and adherence is still limited, faces are still distorted, no Omni feature in V8, text accuracy is still a problem and they removed relax mode so you are spending your credits on bad outputs. And still the users are the problem who are using too long prompts? It is 2026. We have Nano Banana Pro and NB2 with enormous context length, we have Black Forest Labs Flux2 Klein with text rendering running on consumer hardware, we have image editing models capable of taking 14 input images and now the problem is the user who wants to use longer than 1300 characters to control the output? I'm not writing against Midjourney itself, but more about this tweet. It's a great tool for quick visualizing, but since V6 they are falling behind while even open source, free models are catching up. Some examples for V8 and same promtps in Nano Banana Pro/2 4K in the gallery.

I've been testing Midjourney v8 in its alpha release this week. I know there've been mixed reactions so far, and I understand why; not everything is landing yet. But this caught my eye. Look at the tear. Many AI models have struggled with tears but, here, it catches the light the way a real tear would. And the redness around the eye, the overall expression and framing of the face: I think it works well. Have you had any images with v8 that have really worked for you?
@TheoMediaAI ·
Playing around with Midjourney v8-- namely trying out our "Female Cyberpunk Assassin w/ Short Red Hair" in a few different styles. Lots of hot takes on MJv8a wonk-- and, sure I'm getting it too-- but I think the important part to remember: It's an Alpha. This is pretty typical MJ. Alpha is always the playground to get adjusted to the new model. I'm gonna keep messing with it to see what I can pull out.
@RichKleinAI ·
You can make relaxing animations quickly using Midjourney and Seedance 2. I used @runwayml for this example. These are great when you need a creative diversion. Workflow with prompts in the replies:
@RoundtableSpace ·
Every filmmaker needs to try this hybrid AI workflow for precision camera control. Block out your camera move in Blender to create a motion reference. Generate your start frame in Midjourney to match the pose and composition. Feed both into Seedance. It tracks the move almost exactly. This is one of the most powerful hybrid pipelines out there right now.
@benparr ·
Insane how little people talk about Midjourney these days. Two years ago, dozens of VCs were asking me for intros to David Holz. It was one of the hottest AI companies on the planet. He decided not to raise any money. That has ended up being a grave mistake. Now Google and OpenAI are running laps around them. Better tech, much better interface. It didn't have to be that way. Midjourney had a lead. But it needed real resources to keep the momentum going against well-funded competition. Midjourney is a perfect example of when VC funding makes truly logical sense.
