How to add the Xholic MCP server to VS Code

Connect your X account to Xholic first (one click with X's official sign-in, during the free trial). Then:

  1. Step 1: Run MCP: Add Server

    Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server. Choose HTTP, paste the server address and name it xholic.

    Server URL
    https://api.xholic.ai/mcp
  2. Step 2: Choose where

    Choose Global so it works in every workspace. To keep it in one project instead, add it to .vscode/mcp.json.

    .vscode/mcp.json
    {
      "servers": {
        "xholic": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://api.xholic.ai/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Step 3: Approve and ask

    Start the server when prompted and approve Xholic in your browser. Then, in Copilot agent mode, ask: "Use Xholic: what should I post today?"

What can VS Code do with Xholic?

Xholic gives VS Code your X account, your audience and the actions to grow it. VS Code does the thinking; Xholic does the posting, scheduling and tracking.

What is VS Code?

VS Code is Microsoft's code editor. GitHub Copilot's agent mode in VS Code can use tools from MCP servers, including remote HTTP servers that sign in with OAuth.

  • Copilot agent mode

    Copilot's agent plans and runs multi-step tasks and can call MCP tools along the way.

  • Add Server command

    The MCP: Add Server command writes the config for you, globally or for a workspace.

  • OAuth

    VS Code opens your browser to approve on first connection, so no key goes in the file.

What can you ask VS Code to do in Xholic?

You decide what VS Code can do

  • Choose read, write and publish access when you approve VS Code. Untick publish and it asks you first.
  • In apps that can ask, every post and DM waits for your yes, showing exactly what goes out.
  • VS Code only sees the X accounts you tick.
  • Everything it does is logged on its connection, with undo where X allows.
  • Billing, X account connections and security settings stay inside the Xholic app.
  • Disconnect it in one click from Settings → API / MCP / CLI.

FAQs

VS Code and Xholic: questions

Setup, safety and pricing for using Xholic in VS Code.

Do I need GitHub Copilot?

Yes. MCP tools are used by Copilot's agent mode in VS Code. Agents that run inside VS Code, like Cline, have their own MCP settings.

VS Code doesn't use the Xholic tools. What should I check?

Make sure you're in agent mode, open the tools picker and check that xholic's tools are enabled. If the server shows it needs sign-in, start it again and approve in your browser.

Is Xholic free to use with VS Code?

Xholic has a 7-day free trial with no card needed. After that, the MCP server, API and CLI are included in every plan, from $19 a month. VS Code does the writing on its own plan, so Xholic doesn't charge for its AI.

Does VS Code need my X password?

No. You connect your X account to Xholic once through X's official sign-in. VS Code then signs in to Xholic through your browser, so it never sees your X password or a key.

Can VS Code post to X without asking me?

Only if you allow it. When you approve VS Code you choose what it can do: read, write drafts and lists, and publish. Untick Publish and it asks you first with a one-click link. In apps that can show a confirmation, every post and DM waits for your yes and shows exactly what goes out. Authentication and permissions

Which X accounts can VS Code use?

Only the ones you tick when you approve it, with one of them as the default. You can change that or disconnect VS Code anytime in Xholic under Settings → API / MCP / CLI, and everything it does is logged there.

Use Xholic in every agent you use

One Xholic account works in all of them at once, with the same voice, memory and queue. People who use VS Code often also connect Cursor, Cline and Codex.
