How to add the Xholic MCP server to Zed

Connect your X account to Xholic first (one click with X's official sign-in, during the free trial). Then:

  1. Step 1: Add a remote server

    Open Settings → AI → MCP Servers → Add Server → Add Remote Server, name it xholic and paste the address.

  2. Step 2: Or edit settings.json

    The same thing in Zed's settings file:

    settings.json
    {
      "context_servers": {
        "xholic": {
          "url": "https://api.xholic.ai/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Step 3: Sign in and ask

    Approve Xholic when Zed opens your browser, then ask the agent: "Use Xholic: what should I post today?"

Use Xholic: turn the selected function into a "TIL" post and schedule it for this afternoon.

  • → get_writing_kit
  • → check_draft
  • → schedule_post

Scheduled for 3:40 pm today: "TIL you can make a Rust iterator lazy and still short-circuit on error. 6 lines: …" It's under 280 characters and in your voice.

Server address: https://api.xholic.ai/mcp. Steps checked against Zed MCP docs on November 2, 2026.

What can Zed do with Xholic?

Xholic gives Zed your X account, your audience and the actions to grow it. Zed does the thinking; Xholic does the posting, scheduling and tracking.

What is Zed?

Zed is an open-source native code editor by Zed Industries for macOS, Linux and Windows, with a built-in agent panel. It connects to remote MCP servers by URL and signs in with the standard MCP OAuth flow when no key is set.

  • Native and fast

    Zed is built in Rust for speed, with collaboration and an agent panel built in.

  • Context servers

    Zed calls MCP servers context servers; remote ones are added by URL.

  • OAuth

    Without an Authorization header, Zed signs in to Xholic through your browser.

What can you ask Zed to do in Xholic?

You decide what Zed can do

  • Choose read, write and publish access when you approve Zed. Untick publish and it asks you first.
  • In apps that can ask, every post and DM waits for your yes, showing exactly what goes out.
  • Zed only sees the X accounts you tick.
  • Everything it does is logged on its connection, with undo where X allows.
  • Billing, X account connections and security settings stay inside the Xholic app.
  • Disconnect it in one click from Settings → API / MCP / CLI.

FAQs

Zed and Xholic: questions

Setup, safety and pricing for using Xholic in Zed.

Can I use an API key instead of signing in?

Yes. Create a key in Xholic under Settings → API / MCP / CLI and add it as an Authorization: Bearer header in the server's settings. Zed then skips the browser sign-in.

Is Xholic free to use with Zed?

Xholic has a 7-day free trial with no card needed. After that, the MCP server, API and CLI are included in every plan, from $19 a month. Zed does the writing on its own plan, so Xholic doesn't charge for its AI.

Does Zed need my X password?

No. You connect your X account to Xholic once through X's official sign-in. Zed then signs in to Xholic through your browser, so it never sees your X password or a key.

Can Zed post to X without asking me?

Only if you allow it. When you approve Zed you choose what it can do: read, write drafts and lists, and publish. Untick Publish and it asks you first with a one-click link. In apps that can show a confirmation, every post and DM waits for your yes and shows exactly what goes out. Authentication and permissions

Which X accounts can Zed use?

Only the ones you tick when you approve it, with one of them as the default. You can change that or disconnect Zed anytime in Xholic under Settings → API / MCP / CLI, and everything it does is logged there.

Use Xholic in every agent you use

One Xholic account works in all of them at once, with the same voice, memory and queue. People who use Zed often also connect Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code.
