How to add the Xholic MCP server to Windsurf

Connect your X account to Xholic first (one click with X's official sign-in, during the free trial). Then:

Step 1: Open MCP settings
Open Settings → Tools → Windsurf Settings → Add Server, or open Cascade's MCP menu and choose Open MCP config file.

Add Xholic with its server URL. In Devin Desktop the file is ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json; older installs use ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

Step 3: Authenticate and ask
Click Authenticate next to xholic when Cascade asks, approve in your browser, then ask Cascade: "Use Xholic: what should I post today?"

What is Windsurf?

Windsurf is an AI code editor by Cognition whose built-in agent is Cascade. In June 2026 it was renamed Devin Desktop. Cascade can use remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in.

Choose read, write and publish access when you approve Windsurf. Untick publish and it asks you first.
In apps that can ask, every post and DM waits for your yes, showing exactly what goes out.
Windsurf only sees the X accounts you tick.
Everything it does is logged on its connection, with undo where X allows.
Billing, X account connections and security settings stay inside the Xholic app.
Disconnect it in one click from Settings → API / MCP / CLI.

Is Windsurf the same as Devin Desktop?

Yes. Cognition renamed Windsurf to Devin Desktop in June 2026. Cascade and its MCP settings work the same way; only the config folder moved to ~/.config/devin/.

Cascade says xholic needs authentication. What do I do?

Click Authenticate next to xholic in Cascade's MCP settings and approve in your browser. That also fixes an expired sign-in.

Is Xholic free to use with Windsurf?

Xholic has a 7-day free trial with no card needed. After that, the MCP server, API and CLI are included in every plan, from $19 a month. Windsurf does the writing on its own plan, so Xholic doesn't charge for its AI.

Does Windsurf need my X password?

No. You connect your X account to Xholic once through X's official sign-in. Windsurf then signs in to Xholic through your browser, so it never sees your X password or a key.

Can Windsurf post to X without asking me?

Only if you allow it. When you approve Windsurf you choose what it can do: read, write drafts and lists, and publish. Untick Publish and it asks you first with a one-click link. In apps that can show a confirmation, every post and DM waits for your yes and shows exactly what goes out. Authentication and permissions

Which X accounts can Windsurf use?

Only the ones you tick when you approve it, with one of them as the default. You can change that or disconnect Windsurf anytime in Xholic under Settings → API / MCP / CLI, and everything it does is logged there.
