Which post image ratios show in full

X shows a single photo in full when its aspect ratio is between 2:1 and 3:4. The pixel sizes are our suggestions: wide enough to stay sharp on high-density screens and well under the 5 MB limit as a JPG.

X image sizes, checked

Twitter header, profile picture and post image sizes in one place

X's own numbers are spread across several help pages and its developer docs, and many size guides still repeat figures from years ago. The table on this page lists each size with the page it comes from and the date we last checked it. Where X doesn't publish a number, we say so instead of guessing.

The short version: make your header 1500 × 500 pixels and your profile picture 400 × 400, both as JPG or PNG (profile pictures under 2 MB). Post photos can be up to 5 MB, and a single photo between 2:1 wide and 3:4 tall shows in full in the timeline. Taller images get cropped in the feed.

The resizer above the table does the cropping for you. Choose an image, pick a preset, decide whether to fill the frame or fit the whole image, move the crop if needed and download a PNG or JPG at the exact pixel size. It all runs in your browser; your image is never uploaded.

How it works

How to resize an image for X

Five steps, all in your browser.

01

Choose an image

Pick a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF from your device. It's read locally, not uploaded.

02

Pick a preset

Header 1500 × 500, profile 400 × 400, or a post size in 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5.

03

Fill or fit

Fill crops the image to cover the frame; fit keeps the whole image and adds a background color.

04

Adjust the crop

Zoom in and move the image left, right, up or down until the subject sits where you want it.

05

Download

Save a PNG or a JPG at the preset's exact size, ready to upload to X.

Export campaign images at a ratio X shows in full instead of cropping in the feed.

03

Social media managers

Keep one reference for X sizes and file limits instead of re-checking each help page.

04

Quick fixes

Turn a phone photo into a 400 × 400 profile picture or a 1500 × 500 header in a minute.

Responsible use

Sizes change; we date every number

X changes its limits and layouts without notice, and its apps can behave differently from x.com. Every figure in the table links to its source with the date we checked it; if X's pages disagree, both values are shown. Use images you own or have permission to use. FAQ

Twitter image size FAQ

Headers, profile pictures, post images and file limits.

What is the Twitter header size in 2026?

X recommends 1500 × 500 pixels for the header (also called the banner), a 3:1 ratio, as a JPG, PNG or static GIF. X's help center notes that up to 60 pixels at the top and bottom can be cropped depending on the screen, and phones also cut the sides, so keep text near the center.

What size should a Twitter profile picture be?

400 × 400 pixels, as a JPG, PNG or static GIF under 2 MB. X shows it as a circle, so keep faces and logos away from the corners.

What is the best image size for a Twitter post?

X doesn't publish a recommended pixel size for post images. It says a single photo with an aspect ratio between 2:1 and 3:4 displays in full. We suggest 1600 × 900 (16:9), 1200 × 1200 (1:1) or 1200 × 1500 (4:5), each under X's 5 MB limit.

Why does X crop my images in the timeline?

Images taller than 3:4 (such as 2:3 or 9:16) or wider than 2:1 don't fit the range X shows in full, so the timeline shows a cropped preview. People see the whole image when they tap it. Posts with several images are cropped to fit the grid.

What is the maximum file size for images and GIFs on X?

Photos can be up to 5 MB. Animated GIFs can be up to 5 MB on mobile and 15 MB on the web, according to X's help center. Profile pictures are limited to 2 MB.

Does the resizer upload my image?

No. The image is drawn on a canvas in your browser and the download is created on your device. Nothing is sent to Xholic or anyone else.
