From 6.2M views on @GaryMarcus's original posts in the last 30 days.

the negative case against AI gets stronger every day; even Altman admits the problems are very serious with no obvious solution. the positive case, meanwhile, looks weaker every day. a quote from Apollo’s Torsten Slok: “Despite massive investments and widespread hype around artificial intelligence, the technology has delivered zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech. Revenue per worker is… flat for the S&P 493…. Profit margins are… flat for the S&P 493…. No signs of AI boosting [measured] productivity growth…. Mainstream corporate America is pulling back and starting to view token spending… as a cost center…. Mainstream corporate America does not need the latest model and is unwilling to pay for it. As long as agentic AI and token spending are confined to a small part of the economy, the macroeconomic effects of AI will be very limited.” https://t.co/DIFgO2XiA2

Wake up!!! @azeem is calling all these hacks “AI’s Wuhan moment”. Marc Benioff called it a code red. And it is clear it is all going to get worse. Yet the AI companies insist on shipping obviously dangerous products. Meanwhile the U.S. government lacks the will and/or competence to do anything about it. We are on an express train to hell. Tell your congress people to temporarily ban AI agents, or brace for impact.

Every now and then I think that the real problem with Elon Musk is that he has no idea about what the actual facts are. (Nor any interest in finding out.) This is one of those times.

I agree with @sama that these AI-induced security problems are very serious. The only short term solution I see is to temporarily disable agents with internet access until some kind of solution is devised. Anyone see any other options?

IMHO the odds that we will be (or will have been in) a major recession by 2036 are much much higher than the chance that humans will be extinct.

The most dangerous people are those who are rich, powerful, smart, and intellectually lazy, unwilling to critically evaluate whether or not what they think is true actually is.

hey, for the thick folks in the back row, the central problem is they same as it always been: systems with LLMs at the core cannot be trusted. giving unreliable systems with unrestricted access to the internet is and was a bad idea.

i absolutely told you so. january 2025, warning that we would soon see the largest cyberattacks in history, sparked by generative AI and lax enforcement. don’t ever lie and say i am always wrong, again. seriously. we are facing exactly the epic cybersecurity meltdown i warned about.

The movie of all this is going to be amazing, a split screen of Generative AI agents crippling the infrastructure of society while the companies race towards their IPOs. I look forward to Matt Damon playing me, screaming into the void.
