Just connected my ChatGPT Dot to iMessage using @thelinqapp. It's exactly like Instinct, except it actually has context on me + can use my computer + has my entire Gbrain knowledge graph and all my plugins. Instinct = feature not a product.

Has your startup "failed"? You might be a multi-millionaire. Let me explain: Most "failed" startups just shut down, even when they have real revenue. The definition of failure in venture land is strange: If your startup isn't growing revenue 100% annually, it's considered to be failing. That means, you could have: • A great product • Happy customers • An engaged team • Millions of dollars of revenue But you're "only" growing 30% per year. Odds are you won't be able to raise more money and will probably shut down. Fire everyone. Turn off your product. Move on. Poof. Years of work by dozens of people, gone. This is insane, and it's 100% due to incentives. Your founders' equity is worth nothing (due to the VC liquidation pref stack). And your investors, on the other hand, want a 20x or bust. Because of these perverse incentives, it's a zero for both of you. You think you're better off starting a new company. And the VCs don't want to waste their time on a company that can't deliver a big win. But it doesn't have to be that way. What many founders fail to realize is that because their investors are so keen to get out of this failed investment, they are often willing to sell their equity for next to nothing and wipe their pref. They want to wash their hands of you. It's a zero to them either way. For the founder, and holding companies like Tiny, this creates an opportunity. Over and over again, we have partnered with founders or management teams to buy these seemingly failed companies and turned them into wonderful, profitable, sustainable businesses that continue to employ people and churn out cash. With companies like Abstract, CreativeMarket, BeFunky, and Meteor, we have bought out their venture investors, cut back all the crazy venture growth spending, and pivoted to profitability. For example, we take a P&L from this: Revenue: $5M Payroll: $2M Expenses: $2M Marketing: $5M Profit: -$4M To this: Revenue: $5M Payroll: $2M Expenses: $1M Marketing: $500k Profit: +$1.5M Collectively, these businesses have gone on to earn tens of millions of dollars in profit for us, the founders, and their management teams. So don't fret. This could be an opportunity. And if this sounds like you, email austin@tiny.com. We'd love to talk. After all, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Excited to share some details about Tiny's investment in my friend @jasoncwarner's open-source AI model and compute infrastructure company, @poolsideai: In 2023, Tiny invested US$250,000 in Poolside. Based on NVIDIA's financing terms, that stake now has an implied paper value of approximately US$11.1 million (C$15.8 million). That's roughly 44x our original investment, and we continue to hold the stake. The NVIDIA deal has two separate components: a US$6 billion technology licence and a US$1 billion investment in Poolside at a US$13 billion post-money valuation. We also own shares in Poolside Infrastructure Company, which was spun out of Poolside. We haven't assigned any value to those shares, so they're not included in the US$11.1 million figure. Poolside Infrastructure is developing Project Horizon, a power, data centre and cloud infrastructure campus in West Texas. Plans include an initial 200 MW building within a 1.2 GW campus, with operations targeted to begin in late 2027…

Angel investor lifecycle: 1. Invest $25k in random friend's company 2. Friend's corp random sells in 1 year, make $500k 3. Think you're a genius 4. Throw $5M at 20 random companies 5. None sell, illiquid nightmare 6. 20 yrs pass, feel like an idiot 7. It all hits, repeat

I love how people keep dunking on OpenAI Dots saying agents like Instinct or Muse are vastly superior. Software product differentiation used to be a sustainable competitive advantage. If you didn't have the right designers + engineering talent, you couldn't keep up. Those days are over. OpenAI can literally just tell their (now vastly superior private model which nobody else has access to) "go and figure out what everyone loves about Instinct and then copy it + evolve its features + add things only we can do". In a few weeks, they can leapfrog the competition. Add an always-on hardware device designed by Joni Ive (that is fully baked, unlike Mark Zuckeberg's rushed Muse keychain device), plus the most cutting edge models, plus all of your knowledge graph/data and that is a pretty profound moat.

Is there a reason we can’t message our ChatGPT Dots on iMessage? Is Apple blocking or is this coming? Would make it infinitely more useful to be able to CC it on emails (mostly currently possible) and iMessage threads/groups/DM.
