Forgive me for still having an Asian Games hangover, but as I start this week, one story from the Games keeps coming back to me. Sujeet Kalkal was 9-2 down with less than a minute & a half left. Most of us have an inner voice that does the maths at a moment like this. I certainly admit to having such a voice. It assesses the odds and tells us when the rational thing is to accept defeat. Sujeet clearly has another voice. One that says: Not yet. He kept going. 9-2 became 10-9. And an Asian Games gold. The lesson goes well beyond the wrestling mat. When I look back, I realise that some of my key successes in business came when I listened to my other voice that fought the rational one and simply refused to throw in the towel. There are times to listen to reason. And there are times to tell it to wait. It ain’t over till it’s over. #MondayMotivation

There are very few actors who go beyond their craft & become a sensibility unto themselves. For example, say “Brando” & you evoke not just an actor, but a whole attitude, a swagger, a way of looking at the world. Nana Patekar belonged to that rare tribe. I met him only a couple of times & only at large events, so I cannot claim to have known him personally. But then, you didn’t need to meet Nana to feel you KNEW him. Because “Nana Patekar” had come to mean something. Individuality. Authenticity. A refusal to conform. And a wicked sense of humour. He became a character larger than any he played. Indian cinema has lost a remarkable actor. But Indian folklore has lost something even rarer. An original. A man who became his own adjective. Om Shanti 🙏🏽

The Indian startup ecosystem is on steroids. And what excites me most is that this isn’t just about software. It’s about deeptech. Manufacturing technology. Hardcore hardware. Cutting-edge chemical processes. A new generation of Indian entrepreneurs is building the capabilities that could allow us to leapfrog entire stages of technological development. These videos, courtesy @ashleevance & @RuntimeBRT, offer just a glimpse of what’s being cooked up in labs, workshops & factories across India. And right on cue, Rajan Anandan, former head of Google India, & Saurabh Srivastava, one of India’s pioneering entrepreneurs & institution builders, have released a book calling India a ‘Lift-Off Nation.’ An apt description. Because I believe the world is about to witness a tidal wave of technological innovation emerging from India. And it’s being powered by young entrepreneurs who are daring to build things we once assumed could only be built elsewhere. My salute to them.…

We’ve been one of South Africa’s fastest-growing automotive brands. But building a brand isn’t just about selling more vehicles. It’s about building connections with people & their culture. That’s why we created Mahindra Fusion Fest, a celebration of South Africa’s extraordinary talent in music, fashion & art. Now heading into its third edition in 2027. As a part of build up to Mahindra Fusion Fest 2027 we do university activations for Talent Search across the Top 5 universities at SA. At Wits University in Johannesburg, thousands of students turned out to groove with Nasty C, one of our 2027 headliners, while aspiring musicians, designers & artists stepped forward to show us what they’ve got. (I’ve also shared pics from last year’s Fusion Fest.) We’re discovering some remarkable talent on this campus tour. And we figured that the best way to connect with the next generation is to give them a stage.

Rishikesh… These pictures take me straight back to my filmmaking days Chotiwala restaurant was practically my canteen while I was making my thesis film. And I’d head up into the hills behind Swargashram to film the sadhu, Bankhandi Baba. Haven’t been back for a while. But Rishikesh seems to be getting quite a makeover! New riverfront walkways, spruced-up public spaces. A welcome facelift for a town where nature has always done most of the decorating. But I just hope that, amid all the changes, Rishikesh holds on to its soul. Time to go back and see for myself… #SundayWanderer

I have a confession to make. I’m not a great fan of global conclaves. Too often, the conversations are more predictable than the guest lists. But there are some people you simply can’t say no to. Mike Bloomberg is one of them. Back in 2018, he persuaded me to co-chair the Global Climate Action Summit in California with him and Patricia Espinosa. It turned out to be an extraordinary learning experience. So when he invited me to join the Advisory Board of the @BBGNewEconomy Forum in New Delhi, I didn’t put up much resistance. And I’m glad I didn’t. Mike’s ability to bring together remarkable minds from around the world is quite something. But my biggest takeaway wasn’t from the grand stage. It was a conversation with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong. He articulated one of the clearest and most coherent national strategies I’ve heard for turning AI into a competitive advantage. It left me thinking about how much countries can learn from one another, regardless of…

When rumours of his death circulated in 1897, Mark Twain reportedly remarked: “Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated…” Words that come to mind when I hear predictions of the imminent demise of IT services. CNG just got a promotion. Straight to ZNG. 😊 The new XUV 3XO ZNG proves that efficiency doesn’t have to come at the expense of excitement. 200 Nm of torque. Turbocharged performance. More kilometres for your money. And another choice in the growing powertrain family. Because when it comes to mobility, we don’t believe in one size fits all. We believe in one family that fits all.

Nitin, Check this out. We unveiled India’s first diesel-electric hybrid passenger vehicle, (on a Scorpio platform) at the Delhi Auto Expo. In 2006. Two decades ago. Didn’t commercialise it because the market simply wasn’t ready. As for V6s and V8s, building them was never rocket science. The real question was whether India needed more gas-guzzlers. We thought not. Sometimes innovation is about what you choose not to build. My advice? Look before you leap. Pause before you punch. 🙂 https://t.co/nPBSJsU2nC Hi

Navratri. Nine nights. Nine forms of the Goddess I’ve always found that fascinating. Why nine different forms? Perhaps because no single quality is enough to take on life’s battles. We need courage, but also compassion. Strength, but also wisdom. And when you think about it, so many of our ancient traditions are really about the battles we fight within ourselves. Against fear, anger, ego and self-doubt. Maybe that’s what makes them so timeless. The world changes. But the human challenges remain remarkably familiar. Wishing everyone a very Happy Navratri! 🙏🏽

Once upon a time, brands were about status. Then they became about identity. Today, increasingly, they’re about experiences. Pine & Gilmore saw this coming way back in 1998, in their famous HBR article, Welcome to the Experience Economy. And this young Indian brand, Comet, has clearly got the message! They’re not just selling sneakers. They’re letting you have a hand in creating them. Clever. Because the experience becomes as memorable as the product. I hope they give the established global sneaker brands in India a run for their money. I’m ordering a pair. Though I’d better keep a first-aid kit handy in case I knick myself with the knife! 🙂

Six months ago, I shared the story of a patent filed by my grandfather, J.C. Mahindra, in 1918, for a two-cycle, opposed-piston engine designed to run on crude oil. I thought that was where the story ended. Clearly, the team at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai had other ideas! As a labour of love, they decided to go back to that 108-year-old patent, interpret the drawings & actually build a working prototype of J.C.’s engine. And on Founders’ Day, they unveiled it & fired it up. I cannot adequately express my gratitude to the team that brought a piece of our history back to life. But more than nostalgia, I hope this engine serves as a reminder to every engineer and innovator across the Mahindra Group. J.C. Mahindra was, as my father and uncle used to describe him, a “tinkerer.” May we never stop tinkering. May we never stop imagining, experimenting & building. That would be the best tribute we could pay to our founders.

The world is obsessed with AI that writes, talks and creates. But perhaps the biggest opportunity for AI lies beyond our screens. Imagine AI that can operate a blast furnace, manage a cement kiln or orchestrate an entire factory floor. That’s the promise of Physical AI. And I believe it could prove to be one of the most transformative applications of this technology. What excites me even more is the prospect of India helping lead this transformation. @AI4ProdOutcomes’ Physical AI models, working alongside @tech_mahindra’s AI agents, will now be put to work in some of the world’s toughest & most demanding industrial environments. We’ve long celebrated India’s prowess in software and digital technology. Perhaps the next significant chapter of our technology story will be written not just in lines of code, but on the factory floor.

My first reaction on seeing this was: AI. My second reaction, after checking: Good grief. It’s real. This is the Chambal Riverfront in Kota. For most of us, the name Kota probably brings to mind its huge coaching industry. And, sadly, the controversies around the intense pressure on students there. But this is a side of Kota I had absolutely no idea existed. 2.75 km along both banks of the Chambal. Ghats, promenades, fountains and some fairly spectacular public spaces. And apparently I’m not the only one who hasn’t discovered it. The riverfront is reportedly attracting only around 1,000 visitors a day. Why haven’t we heard more about it? Credit to Shanti Dhariwal, then Rajasthan’s Urban Development Minister, who drove the project, the Kota Urban Improvement Trust and architect Anoop Bartaria. Judging from these images, it certainly deserves to be better known. Kota just went on my Wanderer list. Anyone been there? Does the reality live up to the pictures? (Video & pic…

What a Founders’ Day experience at Chakan, Pune, yesterday. It’s our largest automotive plant. 25,000 associates. And with their families there, probably over 35K people thronging the campus in a wonderfully festive mood. The first time I’ve seen any of our facilities adopt the Republic Day format, with a parade and floats using our diverse range of vehicles to depict our culture. They even had me riding in a vintage Willys, generously loaned for the occasion by our well-wisher Ratan Singh. And I daresay some of those floats could have rivalled their Republic Day counterparts! But as always on Founders’ Day, the limelight was stolen by the children. And what’s remarkable is how many of them remember the experience well into their adult lives. I’ve often run into accomplished young people, now established in their careers, who unexpectedly tell me their parents worked at @MahindraRise & they still remember meeting me when they were children on a Founders’ Day outing. That, for…
