Search visibility check
"Shadowban" is the name people use when X quietly limits how far an account or post travels without telling the owner. X calls it visibility filtering. It never confirms one, so no tool can give you a certain yes or no. What a checker can do is look at the places where a limit leaves visible gaps and report what it found.
This checker runs two tests from outside your account. The search test looks for your recent posts in a from:username search sorted by Latest. The search suggestion test looks for your account in X people search for your own username. Before either test, it confirms the account exists, is public and isn't suspended, because a protected or suspended account fails every search for reasons that have nothing to do with a shadowban.
Reply deboosting, where your replies sit behind "Show more replies", depends on who is viewing, so no outside tool can test it reliably. The result says so plainly and shows you how to check it yourself in under a minute.
Methodology
We read the public profile (from our stored copy when it's under 30 minutes old). A protected, suspended or missing account ends the check with an explanation, because public search can't show it anyway.
We run one from:username search sorted by Latest. If it returns posts by the account, posts are searchable. If it returns none, we compare it with the original posts we know the account published in the last 14 days, ignoring the last 15 minutes that search may not have indexed. Known posts that search doesn't return mean a possible search ban; no recent posts means the test can't run.
We search X people for the exact username and look for that account in the first page of results. Searches run as a logged-in account through our data provider, so results can differ slightly from what a logged-out visitor sees. Results are cached for 6 hours per username.
How it works
One check takes a few seconds. Reading the result takes another minute.
Type the handle with or without the @, or paste a profile link. You never sign in or connect your X account.
Protected, suspended and missing accounts can't appear in public search, so the checker stops there and explains what that means.
Every line shows an icon and a plain status: visible, possible ban, can't test or not tested, with what we searched for and what came back.
The tips change with the result. If something looks limited, pause anything spammy, post normally for a few days and check again.
What the checker covers
People mean different things by "shadowban". Here is each one and how this tool handles it.
Your posts stop appearing in X search, even for people searching your exact username. Tested: we look for your recent original posts in a from:username Latest search.
Your account stops appearing in search suggestions and people search, so it's harder to find by name. Tested: we look for your exact handle in X people search.
Your replies are pushed behind "Show more replies" or "Show probable spam". Not tested, because it depends on the viewer. The result shows how to check it by hand.
An older term for replies that are hidden from everyone except you. X now handles this through reply ranking, so the manual reply check covers it too.
Protected, suspended, renamed and deleted accounts are spotted before any test, so you don't mistake a private or suspended account for a shadowban.
A missing post is reported as a possible ban, never a certain one, and each result says what we searched and when.
Use cases
Run it when something changes suddenly, not every day.
Rule search limits in or out before you rewrite your content strategy. Most reach drops turn out to be content or timing, not a ban.
Lots of follows, replies with links, or repeated hashtags in a short time can trigger spam filters. Check, slow down, and check again in a few days.
Check that an account you're about to sponsor or partner with can actually be found in search.
Responsible use
X doesn't confirm shadowbans, so treat a "possible ban" as a strong hint to act on, not proof, and a clean result as "nothing found in search today". The checker only reads public data and never asks for your password. Xholic AI is not affiliated with X Corp.
FAQ
What a shadowban is, how the test works and how to recover.
A shadowban is when X limits who can see an account or its posts without notifying the owner. X calls it visibility filtering. The account can still post, but its posts or profile appear less, or not at all, in search, replies and recommendations.
There are four commonly described types: a search ban (posts missing from search), a search suggestion ban (the account missing from search suggestions and people search), reply deboosting (replies hidden behind "Show more replies") and a ghost ban (replies hidden from everyone but you). This tool tests the first two and explains how to check replies by hand.
It confirms the account is public and active, searches X for the account's recent posts with a from:username Latest search, and searches X people for the username. Each test reports visible, possible ban or can't test, with what was searched. Searches run through our data provider as a logged-in account, so they can differ slightly from a logged-out view.
No. X doesn't publish who is limited, so every checker infers it from what search returns. A clean result means nothing was missing at the time of the check; a possible ban means something we expected to find wasn't there.
X doesn't publish durations. Most search limits reported by users lift within 2 to 14 days once the activity that triggered them stops. Limits tied to repeated rule breaks can last longer.
Stop anything that looks automated or spammy (mass follows, repeated replies, identical links or hashtags), delete recent posts that could break the rules, complete any verification X asks for, then post normally for a few days and check again. If X shows a notice on your account, appeal from its Help Center.
The search test needs at least one original post from the last 14 days to look for. Post something, wait about 15 minutes for search to index it, then run the check again.
No. The checker only reads public data. Never give your X password to a shadowban tool.
