Where creators agree, and where they do not

Shared view

Wind-down dominates the discussion

Sora’s discontinuation is the central thread. The official account said it would share timelines for the app and API and details on preserving users’ work.

Shared view

Compute is framed as a strategic constraint

Posts and leadership quotations frame Sora’s closure as a reallocation of compute and effort toward next-generation models and agents; a separate post says video/world-model research would continue within robotics.

Shared view

Creators identified repeatable production uses

Posts describe reusable references for consistent characters and styles, cross-shot character consistency for storyboarding, and a self-reported ad workflow using Sora-generated hooks with external voiceover.

Open debate

Product value versus reported economics

Some posts praise Sora’s quality, prompt-improvement behavior, or remix culture, while others characterize its costs and business model as unsustainable. Reported cost and revenue figures differ across posts and should be treated as claims rather than reconciled facts.

Open debate

Competition is evaluated through different criteria

The comparison posts do not identify a universal winner: one credits Sora 2 Pro for texture and cinematic feel, while assigning rivals strengths in motion, audio, realism, or prompt adherence.

Open debate

Consumer video remains an open strategic question

One post argues Sora had the right consumer direction but the wrong form factor. Another, based on a small sample of 12 conversations, suggests some younger users seek AI-video creation through short-form feeds and creator accounts rather than direct model access.

Patterns behind standout posts

Questions had a higher supplied median score than announcements

Deterministic analytics assigns QUESTION posts a 50.442 median all-time score, compared with 10.64 for ANNOUNCEMENT posts. A blind animation comparison is one question-format example in the dataset.

Media posts had a lower supplied median score than text posts

Posts with media account for 25 of 50 tweets. Their supplied median all-time score is 10.803, below the text-post median of 12.832.

When Sora dropped, the fantasy was: “You’ll never need to shoot anything again.” Turns out people do get tired of slop. Fast. The internet does not need infinite cats with guns and cinematic bunnies. AI or no AI, some things never change: taste matters. intention matters.

OpenAI killed Sora. Fewer than 500K users. Burning through roughly $1 million a day. Disney found out about the shutdown less than an hour before the public. Their $1B partnership? Dead on arrival. The compute is being redirected to robotics. OpenAI doesn't want to make

WSJ today published a very interesting piece about OpenAI and Sora. -Disney executives learned about the shutdown less than an hour before it was publicly announced, leaving them blindsided. -A key driver of the shutdown was compute scarcity — Sora consumed enormous amounts of

OpenAI has internal dashboard where researchers track compute use. They saw how much compute Sora was using without revenue (losing $1m a day) and moved to shut it down. Focussed scarce compute on latest Spud model.

I got access to Sora 2 today and have been playing around a bunch. Initial thoughts: 1. The Cameo feature is amazing and super fun — really good character consistency. Not quite nano banana level, but maybe 80% of the way there. 2. Most videos I’ve seen aren’t actually engaging
