A few controversial things I believe: 1) A grown man with a family has no business getting on a ladder to put up Christmas lights. 2) a larger vehicle is safer than a smaller vehicle. Put your family in an SUV. Period. Crash ratings are a scam. 3) Pitbulls are a public nuisance. 4) politics is a total waste of time. Putting energy towards it is inversely correlated to happiness. 5) earning money is hard. $100k a year is a lot of money. Twitter acts like it’s easy but it isn’t. 6) sports betting is a disaster for society. Quietly destroying a lot of men’s lives. 7) waiting till 35 to think about kids is a huge mistake. These folks are all going to regret not having more, earlier. 8) SEC and Big10 schools are the new Ivy League. Wealthy families want to send their kids there, not Harvard or Stanford. 9) religion is making a comeback. And the people who get serious about it end up with better lives. 10) marrying a doctor or a lawyer is high status, but low enjoyment. These folks live stressful lives with very little flexibility. 11) vaping and weed are better for your body than alcohol, but worse for your career and life. They remove ambition and energy and make you less social. 12) giving our kids 75 vaccines is going to go down in history as a net-negative on society. 13) technology won’t actually advance a lot from here. Our physical worlds will largely be the same 20 years from now. 14) driverless cars are 20 years away. Waymo won’t make it out of the major cities with 25 mile an hour speed limits. 15) Virtual reality won’t become a thing. Nobody has any use for it. 16) 99% of people have no use for AI and it has reached 90% of its potential utility. Massive waste of electricity on the whole. 17) Web3 is a joke. Crypto is worthless. Bitcoin is a fad and is 100% speculative. Massive waste of electricity. Solves a problem that doesn’t exist. 18) electric vehicles will not become mainstream. They do more harm to the environment than good. Creating them and disposing of them is an environmental catastrophe. 19) Starlink is a miracle and ads 10x more value to society than the previous 5 things on this list combined. Elon needs a Nobel prize. 20) the fed has done a great job over the last 3 years with rates. 21) nuclear power is the only way forward. Solar and wind are not sustainable and are a total waste of money. Oil and gas is the only viable solution today and America should invest heavily in more production. 22) Silicon Valley influencers and Tech titans are out of touch with the true needs of Americans. They could benefit by spending some time in a Walmart. Most people are trying to figure out how to put food on the table. They don’t need another app for their meta glasses. What’s something you believe that isn’t a common belief? Which one am I wrong about?

Americans are productive AF. But there isn't much community. No after-work meetups at the pub. No popping over to neighbors houses unannounced. No kids playing with other kids and group dinners several nights / wk. And I think thats why most Americans are miserable.

Attention Young Women: I’m surrounded by 40 something women on Zoloft, unnatural hair, no kids, hate men and aren’t happy. How to avoid it: 1) don’t buy into the girl power movement. It doesn’t serve you. Hating men makes you an undesirable woman. 2) don’t sleep around. If you do so you will live with regret which will give you anxiety and shame. Zoloft comes next. 3) if you give men sex and a roommate before commitment they will not commit. You will end up 30+ and alone when they get tired of you and move on. 4) go to church. Good men go to church and will treat you well. 5) life isn’t bad with a committed partner. Marriage works. True freedom happens when you work together with someone to build a life. 6) surround yourself with good people who feel the same. If your friends hate men and buy into the bullshit they will help you make bad decisions. 7) set high standards. When a man makes you cry or abuses you, walk away. Very hard to do in practice but a necessity. That’s it. Go out and find a good man!

Your first business isn't about becoming mega successful. It isn't about changing the world. You should take "scale" out of your vocabulary. Start small and make your first business about building up your operational skills, capital, and network. Start a low-risk company. One where you can study companies that do exactly what you want to do. One where you don't need 1000 customers to win. You just need a small piece of the pie. One where you can make low-stakes decisions and practice. One where you can make mistakes and survive. One where you can improve your skills and build up your ability, bank account, and network for bigger opportunities later on. Then once you have these three things, the world is your oyster for whatever you want to do or build next.

I learned how to operate a company by doing things that don't scale. Entrepreneurs today aren't willing to do this. They want to start a company and get rich NOW. They want their app to hit #1 in the app store next month. They want to lecture you about “scale” and how they are going to build a “moat” before making a single sale. To run a successful company, I think you need to learn the basics first. You need to know how to manage people. You need to know how to market, sell, hire, delegate, and lead. You need to get good at solving problems every day. You need to learn how to write and communicate well. You need to be able to speak clearly and confidently to your customers, vendors, and team. These things don't come naturally to anybody. They all take PRACTICE. These skills are like muscles that get built up over years from doing daily reps. That's why I think it's better to learn business by starting something that's more straightforward. That's what I did. I built a…

I love service businesses because the demand outweighs the supply, and it always has. Thirty years ago, only a small percentage of people paid to have their lawn mowed. Today that number has skyrocketed and the industry has boomed. People love outsourcing stuff they don't want to do themselves. There is still a huge opportunity for anyone who wants to provide services like this in so many areas.

When business owners complain about hiring I sometimes can’t hold my tongue. “Yeah, it's brutal out there. How much of your marketing budget goes towards recruiting and hiring?” They look at me like I have two heads. “What the heck are you talking about? Of course I don’t spend marketing dollars on employees. I spend marketing dollars on getting customers. Is that even a thing?” These business owners, and I would venture to say MOST small business owners, just sit back and HOPE that a unicorn walks in the door. They pray that the best, most loyal, hardest working employee who never makes mistakes are just browsing the free classified section of Facebook Marketplace, sees their job posting, and bends over backwards at the opportunity for average compensation at an average company with non-existent marketing. You, as the leader of your company, have to hunt them down and convince them to come to your company. You have to build a company that attracts these A players and then go…

Analyze your time. What percentage of what you do every day could be done by an $8 an hour employee? What percentage is $50k per year decision making work that you want to be doing more of? And how much of your week is actually spent doing things that build long-term wealth? i.e selling, hiring, delegating, building relationships, or simply making the calls on what to do next. Most business owners think about this in detail, and that's why they don't grow.

A lot of people want real estate to be passive. It's not. People want to hear that it's just sitting back playing golf while your tenants pay the bills. They don't want to hear that being successful in this business requires a lot of hard work. First you have to find the right properties, in the right markets for the right prices. Then you need to underwrite the deals correctly and use the right amount of cash + debt to acquire them. Then you need to convince the seller to sell to you instead of one of many other competing firms for each deal. Then you have to acquire tenants, price your units correctly, and get those tenants to pay on time. Then you have to do what it takes to keep your tenants long term. Then you have to deal with all of the maintenance and repairs. You have to do all of this while building a team, getting better at sales, ops, customer service etc. Real estate is a phenomenal business but it is definitely not passive. You need to be a real operator if…

All of the important skills in life are like muscles. If you wanted to build muscle like a bodybuilder, what would you do? You’d go to the gym and lift weights every day for three hours a day for 3 years straight. It’s the same for business. At first, if you don't have any skills, you probably need to get a job and work for someone who does. You need to learn the ropes and figure out which tactics and strategies perform and which don't by learning from someone who has done it before. At a job, you can learn about being a manager (or being managed) and how you'd do it differently if it was your own firm. You can learn about marketing or sales, or decision making or what actually drives revenue and makes money for the company. You also need to make some mistakes and reflect on those mistakes to get better over time. In other words, you need to go out there and practice!
